What you'll do
Our Shorexc guide will meet you at the Port of Funchal where we board an air conditioned coach to take a guided tour of the beauties of Madeira.
We head towards the centre of the island, where we see the spectacular beauty of the mountains with their peaks disappearing into the clouds and descending into the verdant lush valleys.
Driving up to the Pico dos Barcelos at 335 metres altitude to a viewpoint amongst a magnitude of beautiful flowers and the magnificent view of Funchal and the south coast of Madeira.
Further along we come to Eira do Serrado at 1094 metres, where you see some of the best and most exclusive views and experience the beautiful green countryside the most remarkable part of Madeira. This small town nestles between two mountains at the heart of the island and here you can see the enormous Curral da Freiras crater which has been formed by natural erosion and more recently the belief is possibly by volcanic activity.
The village is very islolated and the local people depend upon what they can grow themselves. It is famous for its delicious chestnuts and they are used in everyday cooking. In fact they are so famous there is a yearly festival of the chestnut.
Our next stop will be to the village of Monte where you can see the church of Nossa Senhora do Monte the patron saint of Madeira. It is here that you can experience the famous toboggan rides down the cobbled streets (price not included on the tour).
Finally we return to Funchal where we visit the market and a wine cellar for some wine tasting.
We will then return to the Port of Funchal so you can re-join your ship for onward passage to your next port of call.
