Longyearbyen city tour and Polar Tundra
Shore excursion from port of Longyearbyen, Norway
- Duration 3h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Pick up by our guide with a SHOREXC sign.
Our tour of Longyearbyen, the capital of the Svalbard Archipelago, will visit the most important points of historical and cultural interest in the city located in the northernmost part of the world.
Leaving from the port, we will move to the entrance of the World Seed Deposit, where we will see a beautiful panoramic view of the "Icefjord" "Isfjorden" and the northernmost commercial airport in the world.
We will continue to the top of the Advendalen Mountain where Mine 7 is located and the EISCAT station (acronym in English for European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association) of scientific reception antennas, to the extreme eastern limit from the city.
During this tour, we will make a stop at the "Polar Bear Sign", a very important point since it indicates the limit of the city and is also one of the most photographed by tourists. We will also pass by the Dog Breeding Farms, the old airport and we will enter the Polar Tundra (if the weather allows it) where, hopefully, we will have the opportunity to see the Svalbard reindeer, an endemic species of the archipelago.
For those who are followers of the "Fortitude" series, we will be able to see some places of the last season.
To finish the tour, we will make the route of Longyearbyen making stops in those corners full of stories and beautiful landscapes such as the Central Coal Station, The Church (who wishes can visit it inside, free), the Cemetery, "Nybyen" The New city , The Alcohol Trail and Downtown Longyearbyen.
Finishing our journey back to the Port.
