Hardanger Fjord, Queen of the Fjords

Shore excursion from port of Bergen, Norway

  • Duration 7h
  • Activity level low

What you'll do

Our guide will meet you at the port of Bergen with a Shore2Shore sign.

Contemplate, during this tour, one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world: The Queen of the Fjords, the Hardanger fjord. This excursion will start with a brief panoramic view through the most outstanding areas of Bergen, among them the Bergenhus Fortress, the Town Hall and the Rosenkrantz Tower.

Later we will skirt the fjord to admire the views of islands and snowy landscapes (depending on the date of your trip).

Arriving at Trengereid, we will leave the fjord to enter the valleys and mountains of Gulbotn, a popular ski area with lighted slopes due to the short duration of sunlight during the winter months. We will descend again to another one of the countless fjords, to continue towards our first day stop: the Bride's Veil. This waterfall, called Fossenbratte, unfolds its splendor on a green valley with several farms, a landscape worthy of a postcard.

Continuation through the mountains towards Kvamshogen, a winter recreation area with numerous alpine ski slopes and lots of beautiful and picturesque wooden huts with typical peat roofs.

The bus will descend through the Tokagjelet gorge to reach our second stop: Steinsdalsfossen. This wonderful waterfall, suddenly appeared one day back in 1699, when the river opened a new channel after an avalanche, offers us the opportunity to walk behind its curtain of water in its main jump, of approx. 20 meters of fall.

Our journey will continue to Øystese, in the Hardanger fjord, where we will stop for lunch. (not included).

On the way back to Bergen we will cross the fjord coast to the city of Munheim, where the bus will enter into spectacular valleys with small villages until we reach Holmefjord, one of the arms of Hardanger fjord with the highest concentration of salmon nurseries worldwide.

Upon our arrival in Bergen, we will enjoy a panoramic visit of the city, with a little walk through the alleys of the Hanseatic district of Bryggen (if time allows us).

Return to the port of Bergen.
