Exploring the Incredible Briksdal Glacier from Nordfjordeid
Shore excursion from port of Nordfjordeid, Norway
- Duration 7h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Upon arrival of your cruise, you will be picked up at the port by our guide, identified with a sign.
We will start our excursion in Eid, a small town north of Nordfjord.
We will be headed to Olden, passing through the deepest lake in Europe, the Hornindalsvatnet, about 514 meters deep.
We will continue through the majestic landscape of Olden valley until we reach the Briksdal mountain and a little further on the Briksdal glacier, one of the arms that forms the Jostedal glacier, the longest glacier in continental Europe.
We will then cross the village of Olden and continue along the Oldenelva river, famous for salmon fishing along the shore of Lake Olden. Its impressive color is due to the fact that when it merges with the glacier water, it turns into that beautiful emerald green color.
We will continue along the shore of the lake towards the Briksdal valley to Briskdal Mountain Lodge. The Briksdal Glacier is an arm of the Jostedal Glacier, the largest in continental Europe.
From Briskdal Mountain Lodge, we will hike approximately 40 minutes to reach the top of the glacier. The path runs along the river, towards the glacier and we will be able to enjoy the small waterfalls that go down the slopes of the mountains. The last portion of the hike will be headed towards a small lake dotted with ice stones.
After enjoying Briskdal and appreciating the beauty of the landscape, we will have some free time to eat something (not included in the price), rest and/or walk through the glacier area.
Back to Eid, following the deep Nordfjord fjord, we will pass through the villages of Stryn and Loen.
At the end of the excursion, return to the port and farewell.
