What you'll do

Make the most of your cruise ship stopover in the port of Civitavecchia, with this train excursion to Rome, exclusive for cruise passengers, in a small group. On this excursion we will visit the Vatican State, its museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, without queues.

Upon arrival at the port of Civitavecchia our team of escorts will welcome you, identified with a SHORE2SHORE sign.

We will walk from the port together with our assistant, in the direction of Civitavecchia train station to catch the train to Rome. This walking tour lasts approximately 25 minutes. We will be accommodated in a fast train and in less than 45 minutes we will arrive in Rome, St. Peter's station. At the arrival of our train our guide will be waiting for us, and from here we will start this magnificent tour in the direction of the Vatican Museums.

Rome is known as the capital of two States, for being the geographical heart of the Catholic religion, and for being the only city in the world, which houses within it a foreign State, the enclave of the Vatican State. This is the smallest state in the world, yet within its smallness it harbors innumerable treasures. This tour is a true spiritual and cultural experience, reserved for those who wish to broaden their knowledge of the heritage of the Pope's City, or for those who dream of visiting the epicenter of Christianity.

Having reserved a time to visit the Vatican Museums, we will not have to wait in line.

Inside the Vatican State we will make four essential visits:

The Vatican Museums: delight yourself contemplating the great halls with works of art of all times, among which are: the Gallery of the Tapestries, and the Gallery of the Maps, the Gallery of the Candelabra, the Hall of Pius V, and the Vasari Room. In case of large crowds, the Museum itself can change the itinerary.

The Sistine Chapel: a work of art in itself, decorated pictorially by the renowned artist Michelangelo, and known worldwide for being the place of celebration of the election of the Popes. Various religious passages are depicted on its walls, ceiling and architectural elements. Although you are not allowed to take pictures or videos, the images of the Sistine Chapel and this experience will remain in your memory, as an indelible memory. It is impossible not to look at the ceiling, where you will find the mythical image of the Creation of Adam, in which God touches the first man with his finger. Behind the altar you can witness the magnificent composition of the fresco of the "Last Judgment". A must-see.

St. Peter's Basilica (entrance without queue): This is the most important church in the Catholic world, and spiritual epicenter, as well as being a showcase of art, culture and power. The most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque periods contributed to the creation of this unique work. St. Peter's Basilica houses Michelangelo's famous Pietà, among other great works, such as the statues of St. Peter on his throne, Bernini's Baldachin, or the Tombs of Saints John XXIII and John Paul II.

St. Peter's Square: designed by the brilliant Gian Lorenzo Bernini, with its rows of columns that welcome, as in a maternal embrace to the faithful and visitors. St. Peter's Square is full of symbolism, such as the Obelisk, which stands in the center of the oval square.

At the end of the visit we will say goodbye to our guide, and continue in the company of our assistant. We will enjoy some free time in the surroundings to have a typical lunch or do some shopping. Near the Vatican there are numerous stores and cafes.

Our assistant will accompany you back to the port of Civitavecchia for the farewell and boarding of the cruise ship.
