Rome, Vatican and Sistine Chapel

Shore excursion from port of Civitavecchia, Italy

  • Duration 8h
  • Activity level low

What you'll do

Our Shore2Shore assistant will meet you at the port of Civitavecchia.

We will leave the port by coach to reach Rome with an approximate journey of one hour and a half, passing through the "Campina", north of Rome.

Our day will start with a panoramic tour by bus through Rome to discover the city and will end with a visit to the Colosseum. We will pass by Corso Vittorio Emanuele with the San Angelo Castle and Corso Rinascimento crossing the "Rubio Tiber" until arriving at the Madama Palace, headquarters of the Senate and Largo Argentina where Julio Cesar died assassinated in March 44 A.C.

Admire the Piazza Venecia, urban center of the city that houses the majestic monument known as Victoriano or Altar de la Patria, initially erected to celebrate the unification of the nation and then dedicated to the fallen in wars; Piazza del Capitolio, transformed by the genius of Michelangelo into the first modern square in Rome and now the City Halll and the Column of the Emperor Traiano.

Continuation along the wonderful Via Dei Fori Imperiali with the remains of Rome's glorious past until we reach the Colosseum, symbol of the city, where we will discover its secrets (exterior visit) with our guide. Free time to take photos.

We will continue our walk through Rome with a trip to the Vatican's heart. Vatican is the smallest state in the world, but it has innumerable treasures.

This tour will be a true spiritual and cultural experience. Reserved for those who already know Rome and want to delve into the heritage that houses the City of the Pope, or who dreams of visiting the Center of Christianity. Our expert guide will take us - jumping the line! - to know the four main and must see attractions:

Vatican Museums: Large rooms with works of art of all times (the Gallery of the Tapestries and the Maps, among others) - short stop before continuing our visit.

Sistine Chapel: Decorated by Michelangelo and world famous because the election of the Popes is celebrated there.

St. Peter's Basilica: discover the charm of this place that is not only the most important church in the world and spiritual center of Catholics but also art, culture and power. The most important artists of Renaissance and Baroque periods contributed to the realization of this unique work that houses the famous Pieta by Michelangelo among other works.

St Peter's Square: Designed by the great Gian Lorenzo Bernini, with its rows of columns that welcome, as in a motherly embrace, the faithful and visitors.

Return to the bus and to Civitavecchia after a day suspended in time between Empire and Papacy, Christians and pagans in the most "beautiful city in the world".

NOTE:

From January 2019, new traffic guidelines for ROME become effective affecting traffic and parking in the city.

Long journeys on foot are expected to make the visits. The tour is therefore not recommended for passengers with walking difficulties, people traveling in non-motorized or electric wheelchairs as well as people with very young children.
