Lecce the baroque city
Shore excursion from port of Brindisi, Italy
- Duration 4h
- Activity level medium
What you'll do
Our guide will meet you at the port of Brindisi with a Shorexc sign.
We will go to Lecce "the Baroque City".
Lecce went from being a Greek city to a Roman city. Our walk will begin Plaza Sant'Oronzo, home to one of the most important Roman ruins: 25,000 amphitheater seats, from the 1st century BC. C. and a column that was originally in Brindisi to mark the end of the Via Appia.
The visit will begin by "Porta Napoli", we will walk a few meters to Santa Croce Church, whose baroque facade is as exuberant as its austere Renaissance interior.
Next to the church is the Palazzo del Governo (Town Hall).
We will walk through the quiet streets of the old town, under delicate wrought iron balustrades, white curves, soft arches and amber lanterns.
The façade of the Cathedral in Piazza Duomo from the 17th century will capture our attention as will all the other buildings in the city.
After a free time, we will walk back to Porta Napoli before returning to the port.
