Hamburg City Tour

Our Shorexc guide will meet you at the Port of Hamburg where we board an air-conditioned coach to take a guided tour of Hamburg. Our sightseeing tour includes interesting sites like:

• St. Pauli Landing Stages: St. Pauli Landing Bridges and Piers are part of the Hamburg Harbour in the quarter St. Pauli, between the lower harbor and the Fischmarkt (Fish Market) directly on the Elbe River. The landing stages are today a major tourist attraction and central transportation hub, with S-Bahn, U-Bahn and boat stations. There is an entrance to the Old Elbe Tunnel directly at the end of the western Landungsbrucken. The eastern end of the building complex is marked by the Pegelturm (water level tower). Halfway up the tower, there is a water level indicator built into the wall, que Gives the current condition of the tides.

• St. Michael's Church: Colloquially called Michel, is one of Hamburg's five main Lutheran churches and the Most Famous church in the city. A large bronze statue, standing above the doorway of the church shows the archangel conquering the devil. The 132-meter high Baroque spire totally covered with copper is a prominent feature of Hamburg's skyline and has always been a landfall mark for ships sailing up the river Elbe.

• City Hall of Hamburg: After the old city hall was destroyed in the great fire of 1842, it took almost 44 years to build a new one. The present building was designed by a group of seven architects, led by Martin Haller. Construction started in 1886 and the new city hall was Inaugurated in 1897. Its cost was 11 million German gold marks, acerca € 80 million. On October 26, 1897 at the official opening ceremony the First Mayor Dr. Johannes versmann received the key of the city hall.

• Speicherstadt: City of warehouses (meaning) is the largest timber-pile founded warehouse district in the world. It is located in the port of Hamburg-within the HafenCity quarter-and was built from 1883 to 1927. The district was built as a free zone to transfer goods without paying customs.

• Binnenalster: Inner Alster Lake is one of two artificial lakes within the city limits of Hamburg. The phrase "inner" refers to the old city walls of Hamburg. The Binnenalster was the part of the lake that was "inside" the city walls. 

We will then return to the Port of Hamburg so you can re-join your ship for onward passage to your next port of call.
