About this tour

Some sage said: “know the food, know the Romans!”. Right, knowing the Roman food tradition is knowing the Romans.

Food is such an in-depth part of the capital’s soul and such a diverse and contaminated scene that it is simply impossible not to be fascinated by it. It is simply impossible to leave Rome without having a taste of its delicatessen: beware though, in such big cities the “tourist-adjusted food” is a common thing to find.

You might want to take a fun, informative yummy tour with a real local and food and culture expert to be able to discover the real Roman food traditions and taste only the best Roman flavors as you discover the most characteristic districts of the city, where locals go out.

Throughout the tour, you will indulge in a total of seven tastings, each showcasing a unique local specialty.

Take a bite of the best, join the locals and indulge on the specialties!

From the street food treats, like crunchy Roman pizza to unmissable sweet moments with artisanal gelato, the whole city is a soul-comforting festival of tantalizing tastes. And Romans simply love to share their delicious fare! Discover the Eternal City using your senses, dive into the local gastronomic heritage and taste traditional specialties during a wondrous "Food Quest" through two of the most charming district of Rome.

We’ll start off in the heart of the city center, Piazza Navona, worldwide known for the magnificent Bernini Fountain and the Roman heritage, savoring Rome’s signature snack, like scrumptious pizza romana, which is thinner and crunchier than the Neapolitan pizza, just the perfect snack, available with every kind of fillings.

Then off to walk through the streets of the most local and typical districts of Rome; follow your dedicated small group tour guide for a unique insider’s view of the city’s vibrant soul, a “sniff” of its appetizing scents, and delicious morsels of local specialties and get to the Jewish Ghetto, one of the most ancient neighborhoods of Rome.

Here, we will taste the dish where Jewish history meets Roman tradition, the “carciofo alla giudia”, a special kind of deep-fried artichoke crisp outside and tender within, a specialty you must taste exclusively in this area of Rome! Then, stroll down charming cobblestone-paved streets of the Ghetto to reach Trastevere!

Let your guide lead you to the ancient fornai (bakeries) and botteghe (local delis), browse through the shops, lose yourself among aromas and sensational flavors.

In Trastevere, it will be time to have a taste of local street food: from the unmissable “supplì”, a ball of rice traditionally filled with tomato sauce and cheese to the yummy “Trapizzino”, a peculiar triangle of pizza, filled with the ingredients of the typical Romanesque dishes or a delicious homemade pasta such as amatriciana and cacio e pepe.

This stop will be of course paired with a good glass of wine, because there is not better way to become friends than in front of a table full of specialties as you toast with some local Italian wine!

To complement the flavors of the dishes, we have carefully curated a selection of local wine and beer. As you sample the local specialties, our guide will share fascinating insights into the history and cultural significance of each dish, enriching your understanding of Rome's culinary heritage.
