Walking through the Old Town of Aarhus
Shore excursion from port of Aarhus, Denmark
- Duration 3h
- Activity level medium
What you'll do
Upon arrival of your cruise, the guide awaits for you at the port, identified with a SHOREXC sign.
We will start our tour of Aarhus Bay. Please note this tour is done exclusively on foot.
Aarhus is Denmark's main port, but also the second largest city in Denmark and one of the oldest in the whole country. Although the region is home to almost 800,000 inhabitants, it has a registered population of only about 300,000. It has a huge and forested area which is also essential for Danish transport in general.
We will continue with our walking tour through the old town of Aarhus. We will pass through the medieval area of Aarhus also called the "Latin quarter" and we will discover the wooden streets, medieval houses and some beautiful churches.
We will then visit the Cathedral, built in the 12th century which is dedicated to
Saint Clement, patron saint of sailors. Known for its long history and for the unique treasures it contains, such as the interesting frescoes and the altarpiece. The history of the city unfolds on our walk through the ancient streets from Aros to Aarhus.
On week days we can also visit a small Viking Museum (free admission, closed on weekends).
At the end of the tour, we will return to the port while passengers who wish can stay in the old town and walk back on their own.
SHORE2SHORE thanks you for enjoying Aarhus with us!
