Our guide will meet you at the port of Volos with a Shore2Shore sign.
Visit to the Museum of Archeology of Volos and the charming village of Makrinitsa at the top of the hill is an excellent half-day excursion.
Volos is at the head of the Pagasae Gulf, almost surrounded by the Magnesia peninsula. The natural environment is the main attraction and we will start our journey along the promenade to the Museum of Archeology. There, we will see beautiful jewels dating back 3,500 years, as well as a unique collection of gravestones painted from Hellenistic antiquity.
After the visit, we will climb the slopes of Mount Pelion, one of the most beautiful regions of Greece which receives rainwater from much of the country, so we can enjoy a lush vegetation. There are a number of small picturesque villages including our favorite, Makrinitsa.
Makrinitsa clings to the side of the mountain at an altitude of about 2,250 feet and is aptly called Balcón de Pelion. Due to the steep slope, traditional houses were built on three floors in the front and only one on the back, giving the impression that they are stacked on top of each other. We will explore the narrow cobbled streets, which will take us to the main square with its old plane, a sculpted marble fountain and the small church of Agios Ionnis. You will be amazed by the incomparable view over Volos and your cruise ship in the bay located at the bottom.
After visiting this lovely area we will return to the port of Volos.
Bon voyage !!
