Our guide / coordinator will meet with your group at the Port of Tromso with a Shore2Shore Excursions sign.
Today we discover the Norwegian city of Tromso, on the small island of Tromsøya, known as a center of art, history, cuisine, nightlife and famous for its vast forests.
The city is an important university center in northern Norway. But what makes it really special is its location, about 350 km north of the Arctic Circle, which makes it one of the best places on earth to see the extraordinary phenomenon known as Aurora Borealis.
Before we head to the island of Sommarøy, we will begin our tour with a city sightseeing tour: we will see the Tromsø Museum (exterior visit), with its fabulous collection of Sami people (the Norwegian indigenous people), archaeological finds, objects of religious art and a curious machine that simulates the Northern Lights.
We will continue our tour with an exterior visit of the northest church in the world, called the Arctic Cathedral and built in 1965. Its peculiar completely white and marked lines triangular structure gives a resemblance to the famous Sydney Opera House.
Our tour will continue with a panoramic coach tour through the main attractions in the city.
After the tour of the city of Tromsø we head to the Island of Sommarøy (36 km approx.), Famous for its white beaches and its fishing village where we enjoy a guided tour and some free time before we go back to Tromsø.
Back to the Port of Tromso for departure.
