Our Shore2Shore Excursions guide will meet you at the Port of Skjolden where we board an air-conditioned coach to take a guided tour.
Skjolden is at the inner part of the Sognefjord, 125 miles from the open sea. Previously, the city was a center of business between the northern part Gudbrandsal Valley and the West Coast.
We leave Skjolden toward the west coast to discover this very green and fertile area. We will pass by Nes and Høyheimsvik, two small towns famous for their production of fruits, especially berries.
From Gaupne on the road continues to climb and we will finally see the Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier in continental Europe. Jostedalen Valley extends from the Sognefjord to the mountains of Oppland, a border zone in full length on the east side of Jostedalsbreen Glacier.
Arriving at the visitor Center Breheim, an information center of the Glacier Nigards (one of the arms of Jostedalen glacier), we will have a break to enjoy some free time. The visitor information center of Breheim was completely destroyed by fire in 2011 and reopened in 2013.
You will be able to visit the center (entry not included in the tour price) or have drink in the cafeteria or a walk to get a little bit closer to the glacier tongue. Whatever your choice, you will be surrounded by magnificent mountains and unforgettable panoramas of the largest glacier in Europe.
We will then return to the Port of Skjolden so you can re-join your ship for onward passage to your next port of call.
We trust you had a wonderful day with us and we shall look forward to seeing you again soon.
