Our guide/coordinator will meet you at the port of Rhodes.
Rhodes is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in old Europe. It is a lively neighborhood where about six thousand people live and work in the same buildings in which the Knights of St John lived six centuries ago.
The tour starts from the port with a scenic drive through the New Town, passing Mandraki Harbor, Post Office, Town Hall, Evangelismos Church and continuing to Mount Smith Hill, which offers a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea and the city of Rhodes.
We will pass by the ancient Acropolis of Rhodes dedicated to Zeus Polieus, Polias Athena and Apollo Pitio (where four columns have been rebuilt to give them their splendor).
Then we will pass by the Old Stadium of the second century a. C. and the Theater, both restored.
From there, the excursion will continue through the D'Amboise Gate of the Medieval City. We will get off the bus and visit the Palace of the Grand Master, the most imposing medieval building in Rhodes. The building was built in the 14th century, but destroyed by an explosion in 1856. It was restored in 1939 during the Italian occupation. We will see the street of the Knights where, despite the restoration of its buildings, it has managed to keep intact the physiognomy during the five hundred years since it was originally built in the 14th century (the Gothic order prevails).
The last external visit will take us to the Archaeological Museum, located in the restored building of the Hospital of the Knights of the XV century.
After the visit to the Palace of the Grand Master, we can enjoy free time to explore the old town.
We will meet again with the guide in the main square of the old town before returning to the port.
