Our Shore2Shore Excursions guide will meet you at the Port of Klaipeda where we board an air-conditioned coach to take a guided shore tour.

Klaipeda is a city in Lithuania situated at the mouth of the Dane River where it flows into the Baltic Sea and is the third largest city in Lithuania and the capital city of Klaipeda County.

From the port we will drive to the city center, a small and simple city with buildings from the eighteenth century.

We pass the Clock Museum, the neo gothic Post Office, Plaza Theatre with its source and the "Taravos ANIKE" sculpture, and the University of Klaipeda (former headquarters building).

We will continue our visit to the south of the city to see some of the typical residential areas built in Soviet times, during the Khrushchev era, to learn more about its architecture and lifestyle.

We will discover a multitude of craft workshops in amber; one of the "national wealth" and find out more about the process of cutting, grinding and cooking natural amber before become a delicate piece of jewelry. The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of this mineral, called Baltic amber and covers about 80% of the world's known amber. Its origin dates back to between 35 and 40 million years ago, is one of the oldest and the most appreciated minerals in the world.

We can buy a nice souvenir, have some tea or just walk through the streets, remembering its past as a former German capital of Prussia.

We will then return to the Port of Klaipeda so you can re-join your ship for onward passage to your next port of call.
