We will enjoy a short shore tour around Athens, cradle of Western civilization.

Our exciting travel through time will start with the visit to the famous Acropolis, dominating the Athenian landscape since 5th Century BC, Athens Golden Age. We will walk around the site and its notable structures, like the Propylaea and beyond them Parthenon, one of the most recognizable monuments of ancient civilization built as a temple to the patron deity of the city Athena, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erectheum with its graceful Porch of the Caryatids. Free time.

We will continue with a panoramic tour around the city to admire the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the largest temple in antiquity of Corinthian style dating since 6th Century BC, and the Arch of Hadrian, a monumental gateway built to honor the Roman emperor Hadrian. At Syntagma Square, named after the constitution that King Otto was obliged to grant after a popular uprising in 1843, we will see the Royal Palace serving today as the Greek parliament. In front of the Palace there is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier protected by the Presidential Guard.

As we drive through the city we will pass important neoclassical buildings such as the University, the National Academy  and the National Library before reaching the Old Olympic Stadium re-built to host the first, modern Olympic Games in 1896. Archon Lycurgus first renovated the Stadium in the 4th century B.C. to the only major Stadium in the world built entirely of white marble.

30 minutes free time is provided to walk around Plaka, the oldest section of the city of Athens, before returning to the Port of Piraeus via Syngrou Avenue.

Bon Voyage!!
